To understand the performance of higher education institutions in the country, students can consult, among other indicators, the General Course Index – IGC, an instrument constructed based on a weighted average of the grades of undergraduate and graduate courses at the institution. Thus, this evaluation synthesizes the quality of all undergraduate, master's, and doctoral courses at the same educational institution into a single indicator. The IGC is published annually by INEP/MEC, immediately after the release of the results of the National Student Performance Examination – ENADE.
For the evaluation of undergraduate courses, the IGC uses the Preliminary Course Concept – CPC, which is an average of different quality measures: the Enade Concept – which measures the performance of graduating students – and the performance of incoming students in the Enade, in addition to evaluating faculty, infrastructure, and pedagogical program. For a course to have a CPC, it is necessary that it has participated in the Enade, with both incoming and graduating students.
The final IGC result is expressed as a continuous value from 0 to 500 and in ranges from 1 to 5.
Since the IGC performance index was first published in 2008, Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic – SLMANDIC has consistently received the highest possible score and ranks as one of the top ten Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the country. During this same period, SLMANDIC has also consistently ranked as the highest-ranked institution among those offering Dentistry and Medicine programs.
