Elected to the ORPHEUS Executive Council, Dr. Juliana Napimoga is the first Brazilian and Latin American representative on the executive body.
Juliana Clemente Napimoga, Academic Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research at Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic, was elected to the Executive Council of the Organisation for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System (ORPHEUS). With this, she becomes the first Brazilian and also the first Latin American representative to hold a seat on the institution's executive body.
ORPHEUS brings together universities, researchers, and academic leaders from different countries, focusing on excellence in doctoral education in the fields of health and biomedicine. In addition, the organization works on initiatives related to academic quality, internationalization, research ethics, and the social impact of science.
With her election, Juliana Napimoga expands the presence of Brazilian postgraduate studies and research in international academic governance spaces. At the same time, she strengthens Latin American representation in global debates on researcher training and scientific excellence.
At São Leopoldo Mandic, Juliana is responsible for the academic governance of the stricto sensu postgraduate program. She also leads the institutional Research & Development (R&D) strategy. Furthermore, she works directly on the institution's academic excellence indicators. Her role also includes initiatives for the internationalization of research.
The institution's trajectory with ORPHEUS gained relevance in 2023, when São Leopoldo Mandic earned the ORPHEUS Quality Label. This seal recognizes excellence in doctoral education and was granted after an international academic and scientific evaluation process conducted by the organization.
According to Dr. Juliana Napimoga, participation in the Executive Council represents an opportunity to contribute to international discussions about the future of doctoral education and science. “Participating in the ORPHEUS Executive Committee represents not only institutional recognition, but also an opportunity to actively contribute to global discussions about the future of doctoral training, academic quality, internationalization, and the impact of science on society. I believe that training doctors today means preparing researchers, leaders, and professionals capable of facing complex challenges in health, innovation, and human development,” she emphasizes.
The election of Juliana Napimoga reinforces the presence of Brazilian science in international academic decision-making spaces. In addition to increasing female and Latin American representation on the ORPHEUS Executive Council, this achievement highlights the advancement of the internationalization of research and doctoral training developed at São Leopoldo Mandic.
