São Leopoldo Mandic Faculty and Eduardo Paulino Eye Institute establish partnership for postgraduate studies in Ophthalmology

The course will last a total of 12 months, with 70% of the hours dedicated to practical, in-person classes; activities will take place in the city of Santos, where the institute is based

São Leopoldo Mandic College offers another option for physicians seeking to enhance their knowledge in the field of ophthalmology. This time, in partnership with the Eduardo Paulino Eye Institute, a reference in eye care for over 40 years, a Postgraduate Program in Ophthalmology has been created, which will be held at the institute's headquarters in Santos/SP. The program is led by Dr. Eduardo Paulino, founder and mentor of the institute, who aligns with Mandic's dynamic educational approach, focusing on the study of clinical cases with personalized classes for small groups.

Considered one of the leading professionals in the field, Eduardo Paulino is one of the pioneers of myopia surgery in Brazil, and he is the pioneer in South America of phacoemulsification (cataract surgery) with Cetus NanoLaser. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and holds specialist titles from the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB) and the Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology (CBO).

The course, which begins in September, will last 12 months, with a workload of 500 hours, with practical and in-person classes occupying 70% (the other 30% will be dedicated to live and online conceptual theory classes). Innovation, one of the pillars of the São Leopoldo Mandic Faculty, is present in this partnership with the Eye Institute. Through an exclusive methodology, a platform was developed so that students can share what they expect from the next subject before it begins. Thus, the professor adapts the subject syllabus to the most relevant points of the content from the students' perspective, and creates a fully personalized lesson plan for each class.

Furthermore, practical classes are concentrated in a single immersive week per month, for three consecutive full-time days, with clinical practice, interaction, supervised care, and networking. At the end of each class, micro-assessments are also conducted, based on the main target competencies developed throughout each discipline. This is an important and innovative opportunity for physicians seeking to improve their skills, leveraging the expertise of São Leopoldo Mandic and putting what they learn into practice at a center of excellence, such as the Instituto dos Olhos Eduardo Paulino. Eye health and the ophthalmological market

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is estimated that everyone will face vision problems at some point in their lives. In Brazil, it is predicted that by 2050, half of the country's population will be nearsighted. Furthermore, ophthalmology encompasses various age groups and genders, requiring regular checkups even for people without apparent vision problems.

According to Procedence Research, the ophthalmology market is expected to grow by more than 12% by 2032, which has attracted investment from large companies to the sector, given the great potential for innovation in treatments and the creation of new technologies for the area.
