São Leopoldo Mandic promotes summer internships for medical students in Arcoverde and Araras

The summer internship allows students to experience medicine in diverse contexts, strengthening both technical and human skills.

The São Leopoldo Mandic Faculty promotes a Summer Internship program for medical students. The initiative aims to broaden academic and clinical training through practical experience in different settings and contexts. The program is conducted in partnership with the Sertão Medical School, located in Arcoverde (PE).

During the internship, Mandic students develop practical activities at the northeastern institution. Meanwhile, students from the Sertão Medical School participate in an academic immersion at the São Leopoldo Mandic unit in Araras for a period of ten days. The proposal promotes, above all, a rich exchange of academic, cultural, and healthcare experiences between the two institutions.

The Summer Internship takes place between January 13th and 23rd and is structured to provide students with an immersive practical experience. Student selection was based on an internal application process, considering criteria such as academic performance coefficient, among other established requirements.

Students Beatriz Pagoto, João Lucas Alves Siqueira, Júlia Felippe Silva, Larissa Sá, Paula Bertagnoli, and Thais Bertaglia embarked on this edition of the Holiday Internship in Arcoverde. These students are from the Araras, Campinas, and Limeira campuses. Throughout the program, the students will have the opportunity to experience medical training. This training aligns with São Leopoldo Mandic's commitment to academic excellence and the real demands of professional practice.

According to Arthur Filgueiras, director of São Leopoldo Mandic Limeira, the initiative arose from the need to offer experiences that go beyond the traditional academic environment. "The goal is to allow students to have contact with different sociocultural contexts and broaden their experience in medical practice, whether outside or within the region where they are pursuing their undergraduate studies," he emphasizes.

By interning in locations such as Arcoverde, for example, students come into contact with different realities and socioeconomic contexts, which contributes to the understanding of various service models, care routines, and population demands. Furthermore, this experience fosters the development of technical skills, adaptability, and sensitivity to different social contexts.
