Internationalization
SLMANDIC has established an Internationalization Committee responsible for systematizing international agreements and conventions for teaching, faculty and student mobility, as well as coordinating activities focused on cooperation and exchange programs. The institution encourages internationalization strategies in all its training sectors. For example, SLMANDIC has a formal partnership with the Miami Anatomical Research Center – MARC, USA, for Surgical Anatomy courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Training has been provided at the Fundación Universitaria del Bages in the area of Primary Health Care, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore – USA, in the area of Radiology, and also in Catalonia.
An important form of exchange and cooperation, aimed at institutional internationalization, is through the participation of students and faculty in activities at partner foreign higher education institutions of SLMANDIC. To encourage faculty to update and consolidate knowledge and to cooperate internationally with groups and institutions of recognized excellence in their field, SLMANDIC approved a Resolution that establishes criteria for granting leave for postdoctoral research, both in Brazil and abroad, for SLMANDIC faculty, with maintenance of salaries, for a minimum duration of 3 months and a maximum of 1 year. Furthermore, teaching courses and presenting scientific papers at international events is strongly encouraged within the institution. There is an internal regulation that provides financial resources to cover congress registration, airfare, and accommodation for students and professors.
In response to institutional internationalization strategies, faculty members have participated in exchange programs at foreign higher education institutions, resulting in joint published scientific publications at the University of Manitoba – Canada, Indiana University – USA, University of Turku – Finland, University of California – USA, McGill University – Canada, University of Gothenburg – Sweden, University of Leuven – Belgium, and University of Illinois at Chicago – USA
