São Leopoldo Mandic Students’ Initiative Encourages Blood Donations in Campinas
The “Hemovida, Red June” project will take place on June 7, 13, and 28 at two locations in the city
During World Blood Donor Month, medical students from São Leopoldo Mandic College, in partnership with the Center for Hematology and Hemotherapy, are organizing an educational campaign on the topic on June 7, 13, and 28, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event will take place at two locations in the city: the Cultural Community Center and Campinas City Hall. The main goal of the initiative is to raise public awareness about the importance of blood donation.
The project will involve 40 participants, including students and faculty, who will share with the public all the knowledge they have gained both through their undergraduate coursework and during training conducted by the team at the Center for Hematology and Hemotherapy at Irmãos Penteado Hospital. During the training, which will take place remotely next Friday (6), the students will have access to specific information about blood donation so they can properly guide residents during the campaign.
In addition to encouraging donations and helping to replenish blood bank supplies, the project also contributes to the students’ professional development, as explained by Heitor Dantas, one of the students coordinating the initiative. “Outreach projects like this one, which allow us to work directly with the public, are essential for developing our communication skills. As doctors, we need to know how to explain complex information in a clear and accessible way, making it easier for patients to understand,” he notes.
