Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Postdoctoral Fellowship is a human resources development program designed to enable the completion of advanced studies following the applicant’s attainment of a doctoral degree.

The postdoctoral fellowship serves as an optional path for the careers of faculty members and researchers, enabling them to develop joint research projects in partnership with institutions in Brazil and abroad.

How do I join?

Applicants for the Postdoctoral Fellowship must submit a research proposal in collaboration with a faculty advisor (supervisor), demonstrating the contribution that the proposed project and the applicant’s prior training will make to the group in which the postdoctoral fellowship will be conducted.

The supervising professor must be a tenured faculty member of the Graduate Program in Dentistry—academic track—at the São Leopoldo Mandic College, have successfully supervised a doctoral student to completion, and demonstrate competence and research productivity in the field of the proposed project.

The postdoctoral fellowship will last from 6 (six) months to 2 (two) years; the postdoctoral fellow may request an extension, with proper justification and the approval of the supervising professor, up to a maximum of three (3) years.

Starting in July 2025, students entering the postdoctoral fellowship program must pay an academic fee of R$ 2,000.00 after their postdoctoral application has been approved by the Higher Council of the São Leopoldo Mandic College.

To apply for a postdoctoral position at São Leopoldo Mandic College, applicants must:

  • Hold a doctoral degree from a graduate program accredited by CAPES or from a graduate program at a foreign institution;

  • Have experience and a scientific track record consistent with the proposed research project. It is the candidate’s responsibility to secure the necessary resources for conducting the research; budgetary funds from São Leopoldo Mandic College may not be used for this purpose.

Applicants for the Postdoctoral Fellowship at São Leopoldo Mandic College must submit the following documents:

  • Letter to the Graduate Program Coordinator requesting enrollment;

  • Doctoral degree; foreign applicants must submit a certification authenticated by a consular authority;

  • Program of Activities, including a research project linked to one of the research areas of the Stricto Sensu Graduate Program;

  • An updated Lattes CV for Brazilian applicants and an updated Curriculum Vitae for international applicants;

  • Letter of acceptance from the faculty advisor (supervisor);

  • Updated Lattes CV of the principal investigator;

  • A statement regarding the availability of personal time and budgetary resources for conducting the research, in the case of applicants who do not have a scholarship.

Documents should be submitted via email to the Office of Graduate Studies and Research at flavia.faria@slmandic.edu.br.

Admission to the postdoctoral fellowship will be based on an evaluation of the proposal by the Graduate Program in Dentistry’s Academic Board, which must be approved by the Higher Council (CONSU).

The candidate’s Activity Plan must be supervised by the faculty advisor, who will submit a semiannual report to the Graduate Program in Dentistry Coordination, containing a brief description of the activities carried out during the period, in accordance with the template attached under “Forms.”

Postdoctoral fellows will be required to submit a final report presenting their research findings, in accordance with the proposed and approved Activity Plan.

To approve the final research report, the Stricto Sensu Graduate Studies Coordination Office will request an opinion from the supervising professor, based on which it will review the submitted report.

At the end of the postdoctoral fellowship, following approval by CONSU, the General Directorate will issue a certificate stating the name of the supervising professor, the graduate program or college and the research group in which the project was carried out, the title of the research conducted, its duration and funding source, as well as the location, city, and country.
