Graduate Program in Medical Sciences
Overview
The Graduate Program in Medical Sciences, in its academic format, was launched in 2020 with the Master’s in Medical Sciences, accredited by CAPES/MEC. MANDIC’s Master’s in Medical Sciences comprises two areas of concentration:
(I) AREA OF SPECIALIZATION IN MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY:
Over the past 30 years, minimally invasive surgery has come to occupy a prominent and far-reaching role in the surgical field as a whole. It is now integrated into various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, encompassing endoscopy, interventional radiology, and surgery itself across all surgical specialties and subspecialties. The aim is to strengthen its technical and scientific foundations in order to create and develop new applications of this method, seeking greater integration of the various branches of surgery as a discipline, the scientific and technical training of new researchers, and the promotion of artificial intelligence development in this field. The goal is to train faculty and researchers capable of developing new methodologies for health promotion and improving quality of life. This will enable the development of interfaces between basic academic scientific research, the production of new technologies, the integration of various surgical approaches, and the practical clinical application of new therapeutic options for patients.
(II) AREA OF FOCUS IN TRANSLATIONAL MEDICINE:
Translational research applies findings from basic science to projects aimed at improving human health and well-being. The goal is to translate basic research findings into clinical practice to develop and introduce new therapeutic targets, drugs, devices, and treatment options for patients. The goal is to train educators and researchers capable of conducting research to promote better health and improve quality of life, with the potential to scale up production and file patents for future clinical use. This will facilitate the development of interfaces between basic academic scientific research, the development of new drugs, and the practical clinical application of new therapeutic options for patients.
MANDIC’s Master’s in Medical Sciences is committed to providing solid training for qualified professionals to engage in advanced and transformative professional practice, with particular attention to the social context in which our graduates operate, as well as equipping them for teaching, research, and outreach in the health field, in an inseparable connection with public policies tailored to local realities and grounded in a social vision. To this end, up-to-date information, scientific evidence, and cutting-edge technologies for teaching and research will be utilized across the research areas that comprise the program.
