Institutional Scientific Initiation Programs – PIC

São Leopoldo Mandic Calls for applications are now open for the Institutional Scientific Research Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBIC) and the Initiation in Technological Development and Innovation Program (PIBITI), which award scholarships to dentistry and medicine students for research projects. The scholarships are awarded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and by the institution itself. The scholarship period will run from August 2026 to July 2027.

The project submission period runs through June 1, 2026, and the results will be announced on August 3, 2026. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on the student’s academic performance, the supervisor’s qualifications, and the scientific merit of the project, as evaluated by external reviewers.

The Scientific Initiation Program (PIC) aims to foster an interest in science and encourage emerging talent among undergraduate students, as well as to motivate researchers to involve these students in scientific and technological activities. According to Professor Lucas Novaes Teixeira, PIC coordinator, “Scientific Initiation plays a fundamental role in developing critical thinking and contributes significantly to students’ professional training.”

For more information on rules, requirements, deadlines, and evaluation criteria, please consult the PIBIC and PIBITI program calls available on the São Leopoldo Mandic website.

Scholarship Programs

São Leopoldo Mandic opens calls for the Institutional Scientific Research Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBIC) and the Technological Development and Innovation Initiation Program (PIBITI). PIBIC awards 12 scholarships annually—6 institutional scholarships and 6 from CNPq quotas. PIBITI offers 2 scholarships provided by HUB Mandic—Health Innovation. Recipients are selected based on the student’s academic performance, the supervisor’s curriculum, and the project’s merit, as evaluated by external reviewers in accordance with each program’s call for proposals. And it is not only scholarship recipients who can develop proposals—those not awarded scholarships may participate alongside PIC (PIBIC or PIBITI) as Voluntary Scientific Initiation (ICV) students.
