Check out how the Health Boat Charity Dinner went
On April 18 (Thursday), medical and dental students from São Leopoldo Mandic College gathered at the Dona Terezinha restaurant, located on campus, for the Barco da Saúde Charity Dinner.
The project aims to provide medical and dental care to indigenous and riverside communities. The dinner was held to raise funds for the Barco da Saúde’s next expedition.
During the evening, the students welcomed and thanked staff members, family members, faculty, and friends who contributed to the event. They also shared their experiences from the last trip.
Professor Alexandre Czezack shared his history with the project: “I’ve been a student and a professor, and now I’m supporting this social initiative carried out entirely by the students. It’s gratifying to see the passion that drives this initiative remain alive throughout all these years.”
Mônica Barthelson, a pediatrician and professor at the institution who assisted on the most recent expedition, notes that this desire is long-standing: “Last year, I had the opportunity to visit the Barco da Saúde and felt completely rejuvenated. It had long been my wish to participate, and I believe this is a unique opportunity for our students, as it plants a seed within them. A doctor must prioritize patient care and learn to deal with all local challenges—that’s what makes a true doctor.”
