São Leopoldo Mandic’s Academic Director of Graduate Studies and Research has been elected to the ORPHEUS Executive Council
Elected to the ORPHEUS Executive Board, Dr. Juliana Napimoga is the first Brazilian and Latin American representative on the executive body.
Juliana Clemente Napimoga, Academic Director of Graduate Studies and Research at São Leopoldo Mandic College, was elected to serve on the Executive Board of the Organization for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System (ORPHEUS). With this appointment, she becomes the first Brazilian and also the first Latin American representative to hold a seat on the institution’s executive body.
ORPHEUS brings together universities, researchers, and academic leaders from different countries with a focus on excellence in doctoral education in the fields of health and biomedicine. In addition, the organization is involved in initiatives related to academic quality, internationalization, research ethics, and the social impact of science.
With this election, Juliana Napimoga expands the presence of Brazilian graduate studies and research in international academic governance forums. At the same time, she strengthens Latin American representation in global debates on researcher training and scientific excellence.
At São Leopoldo Mandic, Juliana is responsible for the academic governance of the stricto sensu graduate programs. She also leads the institution’s Research & Development (R&D) strategy. In addition, she plays a direct role in the institution’s academic excellence indicators. Her responsibilities also include initiatives to internationalize research.
The institution’s partnership with ORPHEUS gained prominence in 2023, when São Leopoldo Mandic earned the ORPHEUS Quality Label. The label recognizes excellence in doctoral education and was awarded following an international academic and scientific evaluation process conducted by the organization.
According to Dr. Juliana Napimoga, serving on the Executive Committee represents an opportunity to contribute to international discussions on the future of doctoral education and science. “Serving on the ORPHEUS Executive Committee represents not only institutional recognition but also an opportunity to actively contribute to global discussions on the future of doctoral education, academic quality, internationalization, and the impact of science on society. I believe that training doctoral students today means preparing researchers, leaders, and professionals capable of tackling complex challenges in health, innovation, and human development,” she notes.
Juliana Napimoga’s election reinforces the presence of Brazilian science in international academic decision-making forums. In addition to increasing female and Latin American representation on the ORPHEUS Executive Council, this achievement highlights the progress made in the internationalization of research and doctoral education at São Leopoldo Mandic.
