Professor Roberta Tarkany Basting Höfling, a faculty member in the undergraduate and graduate dentistry programs at São Leopoldo Mandic College, won first place in the inaugural edition of the “Women in Science” award, sponsored by the Brazilian Group of Dentistry Professors (GBPD). The award recognizes academic excellence based on the quality and quantity of scientific output over the past two years.

A national leader in the field of dentistry, Roberta has a solid track record in dental research, focusing on topics such as teeth whitening, adhesive systems, mechanical testing, and restorative materials. In addition to teaching at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, she also serves as coordinator of the institution’s Master’s program in Dentistry.

With a bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral degree from UNICAMP and USP, the professor also has international experience, including research internships at the University of Illinois at Chicago (USA). She has been a CNPq productivity fellow since 2007, serves as an ad hoc advisor to FAPESP, and is an active member of SBPqO and GBPD.

This achievement reinforces the leading role of women in Brazilian science and highlights the significance of scientific research conducted at the country’s higher education institutions. “This award represents not only personal recognition but also collective recognition, which values the work of researchers and the importance of science for the advancement of dentistry in Brazil,” says Höfling.
