São Leopoldo Mandic Launches Mentoring Program Focused on Internationalization
The project’s main goal is to prepare students to conduct scientific research abroad
As part of the next phase of the Internationalization Project, São Leopoldo Mandic College, in partnership with HubMandic, has launched the Research and Internationalization Mentoring Program. The initiative promotes the training of students in scientific research of excellence, in addition to preparing them to work internationally.
During the academic year, the ten medical students (five from Campinas and five from Araras) will develop scientific projects and participate in training modules and mentoring sessions with national and international faculty members. In addition to serving as a gateway to internationalization opportunities, the project also prepares students for the challenges of academic life abroad.
The Mentoring Program is considered a cutting-edge initiative among the country’s medical schools, as explained by Professor Elizabeth Ferreira Martinez, Ph.D., Coordinator of the Internationalization Program. “The project was designed entirely to provide students with a solid and highly effective education, preparing them both to face the challenges of the job market and to succeed in their residency, given the positive impact of scientific publications on the curriculum evaluation process.”
In November of this year, students will present their projects in English to an international panel. The final selection will be made in person by Prof. Dr. Masanori Aikawa, MD-PhD, of Harvard Medical School (USA), who will travel to Brazil specifically to select a student to serve as a Research Fellow for one year in his laboratory—a global leader in cardiovascular biology.
